Well known for his rugged and elemental landscape projects, David Hamling’s most recent works focus on specific facets of the landscape near and far. Rock structures are explored with reference to weight and dynamics, equilibrium and imbalance. In simplifying forms David finds that scale becomes of “enormous importance”.

David uses visual understatement with increased scale in recent plant and shell paintings, and notes an Oriental influence as he concentrates on “what I choose to call the beautiful understatement”.

Enkelt: beauty through simplicity.

David is a member of Penwith Arts Society in St Ives and has held solo shows at Dorchester Arts Centre, Bridport Arts Centre and Plymouth Arts Centre. He was for 20 years Director of Foundation Studies in Art and Design as well as contributing to degree courses in fine art and graphics in Dorset.
