Sam Gingell

Sarah Harcus shows a collection of pastel paintings exploring and celebrating the local landscape. She is inspired by a sense of timelessness in the rhythms of the land and sea. A relatively recent convert to oil pastels, Sarah is enjoying the challenges presented by the medium, responding with strong, graphic compositions and a vibrant layering of colours.

Sarah trained as a ceramicist, is well known for her watercolour studies of flowers, and has been a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries in London. This is her fourth major show at Harbour House since 2006.

Sam Gingell's paintings are produced in response to her personal vision of the softness of the landscape, with its rolling hills, patchwork fields and winding lanes. She has developed a distinctive style, with meditative skies in calming hues.

Moving away from Manchester, Sam found herself in the unfamiliar landscape of the South Hams and felt, paradoxically, as if she had come home. A one-year career break to concentrate on developing her art work has become four years, and Sam has established herself with the Foxhole Painters of Dartington, as well as showing work regularly at Harbour House.

Maggie is constantly drawn to the sea, and her large mixed media pieces are developed as a response to this. Another source of inspiration has been her vegetable garden. Trained in ceramics and increasingly involved in exploring the world of printmaking, Maggie presents a varied and exciting body of work.
Maggie exhibits with Press Gang Printmakers, and at Open Studios Events.
