Suzanne Ahmed's paintings and Mei Lim's photography explore the complex relationships we experience with our surroundings.

Inspired by the writings of the French cultural theorist Gaston Bachelard in The Poetics of Space, the exhibition offers what Bachelard believes people crave: spaces that inspire them to daydream. How we experience intimate places, such as houses and other forms of shelter, shapes our thoughts, memories and dreams.

Suzanne Ahmed:

"For me, art has an emotive base. I feel space, form and colour are poetic and lyrical. Process of production is an inherent part, and includes chance, accidents, and faith in what is emerging, and forms the ritual and archeology behind the finished piece.

A change in geography is a driving influence in my work, bringing newness to what is seen and a heightened curiosity in the aesthetics of the normal and everyday."

Mei Lim, an Associate Member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, exhibits for the first time at Harbour House.

"Primarily I strive to 'see' beyond the real as well as to maintain a spirit of experimentation in my work, peppered with humour whenever possible."
