The Interpretations of Symbols

A year long, monthly study group for those interested in C.G. Jung
symbolism and depth psychology

with Jonathan Parker

2012 dates to be announced soon

7.30 - 9.30 pm

The unconscious psyche expresses itself in images and symbols. These can only be understood when interpreted symbolically. This requires a different kind of thinking, ‘symbolic thinking’, rather than the literal thinking with which we are more familiar. By studying myths, legends and fairytales in this way we begin to learn how the unconscious psyche works. Slowly it becomes possible to have more insight into the unconscious material that also comes to us, for example, in the form of dreams.

Jungian analysts work with myths, legends and fairytales during their training and later because their symbolism provides an effective way of becoming familiar with symbolic interpretation. This helps us begin to understand our own inner world and also to recognise unconscious factors that play a part in all our lives.

Working with myths, legends and fairytales and unwrapping their secrets is an enjoyable and challenging process. During the monthly meetings we will read and then reflect upon the symbolism of different stories, learning how to look more deeply into the meaning of symbolic images, events and situations.

The group will start in late January 2011, on a Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm, although if necessary the days may be changed. It will be a small group of not more than eight people.
