Contemporary life drawing classes; based on an experimental use of drawing media and a creative investigation of the subject.
These classes are suitable for students of all levels.

A willingness to experiment and to be challenged is essential.

I believe drawing from the figure is an essential practice for any form of visual art.

In a culture where how we see is dominated by the lens and photographic or digital image it is important to re-consider why we draw.
I think of drawing as a visual investigation.
Learning to draw is learning ways of seeing.

These classes will teach students to use life drawing as a way of generating visual ideas and of discovering new perceptions. Techniques will not be taught but rather strategies that encourage a creative investigation of the subject. These strategies will include line, form, spatial context, movement, rhythm, and the dynamics of tension, balance and weight.
