This is an oppurtunity to make a portrait head from clay working directly from the model. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners or more experienced artists/sculptors who wish to explore the human head in some detail.

Skills taught will include building a simple bust peg, working clay with tools and hands, observing the anatomy of the head, measuring skills, and visual skills (contours, light, surface and form). We will also explore the relationship between mood, energy and surface using music, and the balance between the logical and imaginative sides of the brain in creative practice.

Please wear comfortable old clothes and bring any of the following:
Cd's of any music that inspires you
Healthy homemade biscuits or cake to share at tea time
Clay tools
Sketch pads and pencils

The cost of the workshop is not inclusive of materials. Clay, paper and charcoal will be available to buy on the day.

Please note that there will not be time to prepare the heads for firing on the day.
You may, however, take your clay head home with you if you wish to hollow and fire it elsewhere.

Beki Doe has been a self employed artist, musician and teacher since 1993 having trained first as a violinist at The Royal Academy of Music, and later as a ceramist and sculptor at Bath Spa University College. She has toured with The Royal Academy of Art Outreach workshops teaching self expression through art and music, and taught privately and at many schools and colleges. She is currently the Art Facilitator at the So Centre of Music, Art and Movement, London, and Sculpture Teacher/ Corporate Workshop leader at The Art Academy, London.

Beki has exhibited her ceramic sculptures in the UK in many galleries and exhibitions, performed with classical orchestras and string quartets, and written, recorded and toured with bands worldwide.

Through many years of teaching and practice Beki has studied in depth the use of body, mind and energy in creative expression (Living Tao Barefoot Training (Avalon Permaculture Gardens), Energy Healing (NFSH), Tai Chi (Mei Quan Academy),and The Alexander Technique). She is currently developing a book and teaching a series of workshops which apply these principles to instrumental playing and art.
